Switching between configs

So I thought I'd make a small post about how I configured QL to switch between configs. The main thing here is that, when I want to switch between game modes, I want different configs for binds and HUDs. Disclaimer: maybe I take this too far, but it works for me, haha.

So, for iFT, I want a good clean HUD, like this:


And for CA, I want info on my health and armor:


Both HUDs are made with http://visualhud.pk69.com, so you get a HUD.cfg and a HUD.menu file.

And for iFT, I want the commands for our team, while for CA, I need to switch between weapons (only between gauntlet and railgun for iFT obviously).

So in quakelive\home\baseq3\ I made two folders:

quakelive\home\baseq3\ui
quakelive\home\baseq3\controls

Obviously, UI has the HUD files (CA.cfg, CA.menu, iFT.cfg, iFT.menu) and CONTROLS has the binds for the game modes (CA.cfg and iFT.cfg).

Now, in quakelive\home\baseq3\ (the top folder), I have another CA.cfg and iFT.cfg. They load like this:

cg_hudFiles "ui/CA.cfg"
exec "controls/CA.cfg"
vid_restart

The vid_restart is necessary to load the HUD.

Then, in the autoexec.cfg of QL, I added this:

bind 9 "exec CA.cfg"
bind 0 "exec iFT.cfg"

That way, I can switch between the two configs while playing QL with the press of a button. Easy.

Nice one man, but this is to complimented for me but may i please have that CA Hud?

Yeah, i did it, now i have a nice hud
